Upstate New York Retreat - September 19-22, 2024

Autumn Blend

Rosemary Dorsett and I are excited for you to join us in Upstate New York this September (19-22), for our long weekend retreat! We’ll be weaving together a variety of practices – including Pilates, meditation, and different yoga modalities – to ignite, rejuvenate, and restore the body in equal measure.

There will also be plenty of time to get out in nature and simply relax at our 12-acre property in Ghent (located in the Catskills). We’ll be situated amid old-growth trees and rolling hills – a truly peaceful and ideal setting, and we’ll be lucky enough to be there at one of the most special times of year, as the season changes.

Our mornings in the Hudson Valley will include an optional meditation practice in nature before a blend of Mat Pilates and yoga to kick off the day. After our chef-prepared brunch, there are beautiful hikes and walks throughout the area, lots to explore off-property by car in town, or you can just kick it at the house and have time to read, rest, or grab a nap. There are also not one but two onsite saunas, an indoor steam shower, a natural swimming pool, and a Japanese cedar hot tub to experience, whether pre- or post-practice or whatever time of day!

We are also thrilled to be able to offer an exclusive artist studio tour and workshop with ceramicists Kaitlin Jostad and Sarah Mijares Fick, where you will have the chance to learn the ancient Japanese technique Nerkomi to create your own one-of-a-kind piece (and have it shipped home to you)! Rosemary and I have also planned a group hike at the gorgeous Art Omi Sculpture and Architectural Park, situated on 120 acres and featuring large-scale art installations in a dreamy, lush natural setting. Learn a new skill, spark a little creativity, and feel inspired! (These are all optional activities, but we highly recommend!) There is so much to enjoy in the area, from local farmstands to the best vintage and thrifting – truly something for everyone.

Evening practices will be more focused on calming the mind and body through Yoga Nidra, seasonally-focused movement and breathing (we’ll be there right at the autumn equinox!), restorative yoga, joint-healthy mobility and stretching, and more. Everything is planned with you in mind, so we might design one practice around unwinding the body after a daytime hike!

Our private chef will provide group dinners at the house, typically following evening yoga. There is plenty of space to hang out inside and outside after dinner, whether in the living room by the woodburning stove, outside on a hammock or the large outdoor terrace by a fire (or in your room with a great book).

Over the course of your stay, we want to provide techniques to enrich your home practices as we move into the colder months and into our interiors – ideas and methods to weave into your routine and enliven it, so what we do together can extend beyond the container of our time together. Fall is often a busy time, so our goal is for you to leave feeling nourished, nurtured, and reset from the weekend.

Can’t wait to see you there!
